Bricquebec

In the village of Foyer to the east of Bricquebec
stands a memorial, only recently erected to the crews of two American B17
bombers shot down near here.
Both crews perished in their respective crashes.
Both these planes were involved in the pre D-day bombings of targets on the
Cotentin Peninsula.
The radio guidance and radar station at Sortosville en Beaumont, or the coastal
defences may hay been the target, or possibly the V2 installation at Sottevast
only a few miles away.
The first B17 was shot down near Rocheville a small village just 3 km to the
north of the memorial on April 27th 1944 and the second near to Bricquebec on
May 8th 1944.
Looking at the names on the memorial you realise just how diverse the American
nation is.
