Barneville

The main commemoration of June 18th 2004 was focused at the American Monument at Barneville. It was here that the American troops cut off the Cherbourg peninsular, sixty years ago. By cutting off the peninsular the Germans at Cherbourg were isolated and their eventual surrender ensured.
The ceremony included school children who put flowers on the monument and later released balloons, one for each American soldier who died in the area.
Guest of honour was Mr. Gary Clements the American Consul for our part of France.
